Following our latest discovery this week we bring you something totally different. Some obscurity vibe but instead of those ambient soundscapes that captivated our minds, this time we present you Julien Michaud Aka Sylvgheist Maëlström. Industrial minimal sounds with IDM touches that will delight any industrial music lover.
Julien Michaud's music influences can clearly be identified with Einstürzende Neubauten and Orphx. This particular background would be found in a new reinvented form of compositions under the name of Sylvgheist Maëlstrom.
Sylvgheist Maelstrom concept was born in Sweden. The ghostly spirit of nature is for Julien (aka Sylmalm) the artistic translation of wild nature claiming back its right over civilization and mankind. Resting on principles of minimalism and repetition, Sylmalm's works tend to limit the amount of sound and resources to ignore the notion of melody; instead, a strong focus on carefully constructed powerful rhythmic patterns that invites us to discover a new form of mental landscapes.
Skaftafell (2012 - Hands)
Skaflatell is the second album from Sylvgheist Maëlström an appeased and much more melodic than its predecessor. Resting on complex rhythmic combinations it continues to explore the themes that are important to Sylmalm. The forces of nature and their impact on human experience. You can stream the full album in the next link.
Pripyat (2014 - Hands)
Prypiat forms a sound collage made with heavy rhythms into a crescendo aiming to take the listener to what Sylmalm calls a state of industrial trance. You can stream the full album in the next link.
Since 2011, Sylmalm has been organising each year an industrial techno festival in Paris called FDLMEI. With this particular project Sylvgheist Maëlström has acquired a new visual dimension. Symalm's music and the themes it explores are extended in the images Sebastien constructs and deconstructs during his live performances.
Another good example is the next teaser video where you can feel and see what Sylvgheist Maëlström has to offer.
Sylvgheist Maëlström is now working on a fourth album that is to be issued on the acclaimed German label Hands in 2017.
